what a difference a day makes

It took two days, but we made it to Madison! Two cars, two cats, and two entirely different travel days.
The highlights:
Day 1
-Bumper-to-bumper traffic and pouring rain for four hours.
-Non-functional walkie-talkies within the first 20 minutes of the trip [side note: thank you to Carrie and Jeremy for lending us the walkies - they were super fun for 20 minutes!]
-A car-sick cat in the first 30 minutes of the trip. -A long detour off the main route to avoid traffic only to encounter a winding mountain road which caused both cats enough distress that Lucy excessively foamy-drooled to the point of having a Santa Claus beard and Sam meowed incessantly.
-Re-enactments of the foamy-drool/meowing whenever the driving was bumpy, hilly, stop-and-go or in any way not smooth.
-Total travel time of twelve hours which should have taken eight. blah.
Rain.

Rain + traffic.
No thank you.
Day 2
-Blue skies.
-Flat, straight, smooth midwestern highways.
-A bottomless snack bag.
-Peacefully sleeping kitties all day long!
Blue sky, flat road, windmills!
Despite the comedy of errors yesterday, there were several silver linings. First was the amazing goodie bag from C&J, including a ton of snacks (both for humans and felines) a mix cd from Erin (thanks, E!) and the complete works of Super Secret Comedy! And I can't complain about a free room due to the management accidentally overbooking the hotel!
But that's all over and done with! Now we're finally here!

  2. Carrie, it showed!! I wouldn't have survived without it. Especially at midnight driving through Ohio. That was my Pixie stick moment.
