Owen sang practically nonstop from the moment we got home this afternoon (around 4:50) to 7:45 when I closed his bedroom door after tucking him in!

Our childcare provider's daughter is home from school over the summer. She's 8 years old (I think) and has really taken to Owen. Look at the adorable art she and Owen made together!

I was trying to take his picture in his sun hat and he kept saying, "ch!"  (The noise the iPhone makes when it takes a picture.) Silly!

More Owen-isms of late

This morning at drop off at our childcare provider, I sat down on the mini sofa to read a couple books to Owen before I left. He came over and sat on my lap. Baby Henry got interested in what we were doing, so he crawled over and pulled up to standing by holding onto my knee. Owen looked at Henry, displeased, and said firmly: "Not your mommy, Henry."  !!!!!

Driving home this afternoon after pick up, Owen sneezed twice in the backseat. I said "Bless you!" each time. Then he goes, "It's a bless-you! [fake sneezing sound] It's a bless-you! [another fake sneeze]"

Some quickies:

"The sky is rolling!" (Beautiful blue sky with puffy white clouds blowing by, so it was a really nice description.)

"Wanna picnic dinner!" (I love that he asked for this! We've been bringing dinner to the park and eating at the picnic table, so I'm glad he likes it!)

"Wanna fish fry." (We haven't been to a fish fry in over a year so there's no way he could remember - teachers must have been talking about it during the day. But he's right - we need to do that! Maybe when Nona comes to visit?)

"Oh Lucy!!! Where aaaarrre you? There it is!! I'm chasing the LuLu." (Self-explanatory)

Being a toddler

Tonight Owen laid down on the floor and said, "I'm hungry. Wanna eat." And I said, "Oh, you're hungry?" And he says "No." I just burst out laughing and so did he!

owen lately

• Last night before bed he was running about naked and crazy and suddenly ran over to the wall where I have some of his finger-paintings hanging low so he can look at it. He stops, points to it and exclaims: "Artwork!"
• Later, we were rocking and talking and for once he was being calm and relaxed. He switched positions so that he was lying on his side across my body, more like a baby. He says, "I go this way and close my eyes." He closed them for a second and we kept rocking and talking but he was starting to squirm and couldn't get comfortable. He stops and goes, "Owen's too big."

• He was crying because he fell down and skinned his knee. Dave was carrying him on his shoulders as we walked back to the car, and Owen goes, "Owen is crying and Mommy and Daddy are happy and walking!"

• Owen scraped his hip along something and told me, "Hurt pocket!" (I guess he doesn't know the word for "hip."

• We were drawing with chalk the other morning and he was doing dots so I said "Very nice! Pointillism!" And he mimicked back "Pointillism!!" And continued with his dots. (Finally, an anecdote that doesn't involve Owen getting hurt!)
