end of summer party at daycare

Owen's daycare had a little party for all the babies and parents to celebrate the end of summer/beginning of the school year. The director organized some animals to come to a petting zoo in the backyard. Owen LOVED it!

door county vacation - last post

Are you sick of looking at other people's vacation pictures yet? Don't worry this is our last one. We ended vacation like we started it - back at the Fish Creek waterfront. Beautiful place and wonderful memories. We will return!

I want to stay here next time!

Threw this one in for good measure - Owen can identify eyes, ears, noses, mouths, and heads!

Do you think this kid loves his Dad? I think so!

door county vacation - fish boil

We snagged an early reservation for a traditional Door County fish boil one night.

Here's the fresh whitefish, ready to cook.

Boil pots are outside in a courtyard behind the restaurant.

Boil over! They throw something on the fire to make it flame up like that and the pot boils over to get rid off the excess fish oils in the water. It's served immediately afterwards. Caught, cooked and eaten within 24 hours. Delicious!

Owen wants to go outside to watch!

Owen watches the fish boil process.
Beautiful setting with the bluffs as a backdrop.

door county vacation - big chair, big hit

Julie's is a fun little restaurant right outside Peninsula State Park. We had lunch and then went outside to play and take pictures on the big chair. We could have stayed all day. The weather was perfect and the chair was SO comfortable! (I know, weird huh?) Owen's favorite part? The rocks under the chair. I tell ya, vacation with a one year old is awesome. You don't have to pay for anything! Just give him some rocks and he's happy.

door county vacation cont. - green bay

For some reason, Owen's first time in a natural body of water was a big deal to me. Here are photos from this milestone - and Owen's inaugural swim was in Green Bay! These pictures are from the pretty little beach in Egg Harbor. To say Owen loved the waves and water would be an understatement!

Running back into the surf for more!

door county vacation - pc junction

We decided to indulge Owen and take him to a "kids' restaurant" one day. (Not that he asked, but ya know, felt like we should give the kid thing a go.) We discovered PC Junction - the restaurant that delivers the food on a train. Sounded totally cheesy but we figured why not. Well, let me tell you. PC Junction is amazing. It's kitchy and fun and awesome. I knew we were in good hands when there was an outdoor bar selling margaritas and bloody mary's!

Once inside, we got a window seat...

...to the train below!
Check out the kid chowing down! Hilarious! And little Owen in the window above!
So in this picture you can see a part of the horseshoe shaped bar. The train goes around and delivers the kids' orders! So cool. Notice all the root beer and cream soda bottles. The bar was lined with all kids, all chugging from their glass bottles. This is Wisconsin after all!

Outside, there was this huge ridiculously fun play zone in the woods with pedal cars and mazes and climbing things.

An unexpectedly fun time for sure! And then there happennd to be a winery across the street so we stopped in for a tasting and an Italian festival (and bocce of course).

door county vacation continued - norwegian chapel in the woods

We were driving around and Dave noticed a sign to a  historic Norwegian chapel in the woods. Turn's out it's part of Lawrence University's northern campus, Bjorklunden.

door county vacation continued - schopf's country store

This trip was just so fun. There seemed to be free amusements around every corner. Maybe it's just Owen's age that makes everything easier and cheaper? I felt like we didn't really have to do much to have a good time. Case in point - Schopf's Dairyview County Store. It's a dairy farm. They sell ice cream and food. You can watch the cows being milked and they have slides and a free little petting zoo. And a corn maze, but that scares me!

Between going down with me and Dave, Owen probably slid down this slide 50 times.

Some kind of crazy Highlander cow!

Finally! Owen gets to see a real goat!

door county vacation continued - peninsula state park

Peninsula State Park. Coolest state park ever! A lighthouse, a golf course, a folklore theater, biking, swimming, boating, gorgeous views and a drive-in theater and restaurants nearby! I could stay here a week.

For our first trip, we saw the lighthouse and took a short walk to Welcker's Point.

It's nap time!

Owen is wondering when we will start pushing him down the bike path so he can take a snooze.

Owen may be grumpy, but we are happy!

After a short walk, he's out like a light. Just in time for a family photo.

Look at those waves! This is a LAKE folks, a LAKE! Unbelievable.
