door county vacation continued - norwegian chapel in the woods

We were driving around and Dave noticed a sign to a  historic Norwegian chapel in the woods. Turn's out it's part of Lawrence University's northern campus, Bjorklunden.

door county vacation continued - schopf's country store

This trip was just so fun. There seemed to be free amusements around every corner. Maybe it's just Owen's age that makes everything easier and cheaper? I felt like we didn't really have to do much to have a good time. Case in point - Schopf's Dairyview County Store. It's a dairy farm. They sell ice cream and food. You can watch the cows being milked and they have slides and a free little petting zoo. And a corn maze, but that scares me!

Between going down with me and Dave, Owen probably slid down this slide 50 times.

Some kind of crazy Highlander cow!

Finally! Owen gets to see a real goat!

door county vacation continued - peninsula state park

Peninsula State Park. Coolest state park ever! A lighthouse, a golf course, a folklore theater, biking, swimming, boating, gorgeous views and a drive-in theater and restaurants nearby! I could stay here a week.

For our first trip, we saw the lighthouse and took a short walk to Welcker's Point.

It's nap time!

Owen is wondering when we will start pushing him down the bike path so he can take a snooze.

Owen may be grumpy, but we are happy!

After a short walk, he's out like a light. Just in time for a family photo.

Look at those waves! This is a LAKE folks, a LAKE! Unbelievable.

door county vacation continued - fish creek

Fish Creek, WI

This little town is adorable! I think we'll stay here next time we travel to Door County. Or maybe Ephraim? Anyway, we liked hanging out in this little town and checking out the boats and the view. It was windy!

Does this look like a lake to you? It is! It's the Green Bay part of Lake Michigan. Unbelievable.

vacation above the 45th parallel

Door County vacation  = my cup of tea. And I think it was Dave and Owen's too! First family vacation was a success! I was a little worried when we arrived Thursday and it poured all day and all night (thank god for the indoor pool) but the rest of the weekend was beautiful.

I grew up going to rocky beaches with tiny lapping waves in small inlets in New England and Canada. Then we moved to NC where I had to learn to navigate giant waves and grew to love wide sandy beaches that stretch for miles. When we moved to the Upper Midwest I just couldn't understand the love affair with lakes.  After this weekend, I get it. I totally get it.

More vacation posts to follow - this will be a vacation photo blog series! Hold on to your hats!

band-aid

So I thought yesterday was Owen's first time needing a band-aid (for a small scrape on his foot). But then I remembered he's had band-aids before since the doctor puts them on after shots. So the new thing about yesterday was it was my first time as a mom putting a band-aid on him! Isn't that funny how that really made me feel like "Mom."
